The Land Transfer Tax, administered by Motor Fuels and Tobacco Tax Branch, imposes tax on all acquisitions of land in Ontario, for general revenue purposes. "Land" includes the land itself and all buildings, structures, fixtures, other improvements (sewers, landscaping, paved parking lots). Land transfer tax is imposed on the acquisition of an interest in land either by a registered conveyance or by an unregistered disposition. Rates: 0.5% on value of consideration up to and including $55,000; 1% on amounts over $55,000 up to and including $250,000; 1.5% on amounts over $250,000; 2% on amounts over $400,000 for single family residences where value of consideration exceeds $400,000.
